At five fifteen this morning I reached over to the notepad next to my bed to quickly scribble down the dream I just had. It was one of those that needed recording right away. I dreamt I saw a fat python in a shrub moving toward its prey. Being an amateur naturalist, I quickly reached for my phone to record it. As I walked toward the python I saw another snake that I nimbly jumped over and proceeded to follow the python. Even though there was more to the dream, this was the part that I had to note down.
Some of you might be thinking what is wrong with this woman, chasing snakes?! But you see, because I have been observing and learning about snakes I know their nature, their character and how to behave around them. I have a healthy respect, but I do not fear. If you know the nature of a creature or person, you know whether to fear it/them or not. Knowing the nature or character of a creature takes away the mystery aspect which usually, for humans, either results in fear or curiosity. When walking with my husband in a dark alley, I do not fear him. However, if I walked into that same alley with a strange man, I would probably be cautious and/or fearful, because I do not know him.
Do you see where I am going with this? Our enemy, the devil, cloaks himself with mystery in order to produce fear in us. He can be very theatrical about it. What we have to remember is that he is but a powerless and defeated fallen angel. The only so-called power he has is the amount of fear he can stir up in you through lies. Due to the very nature of lies (that they are not true) we actually do not have to fear them - how is that for a truth! So how do you overcome this kind of fear? By getting to know your enemy’s nature. Now, I am not saying that we should focus on the devil, on the contrary! I am saying that we should know how and who defeated him, because Jesus knew the devil and his strategies and made a very public display of defeating the enemy in order that we should not have to fear him any more.
Bottom line. If you want to overcome demonic fear or fear of any kind - because this pleases God - draw closer to Jesus. Get to know His character and nature. Read the Bible and spend time with His Spirit for this will stir up faith, confidence and courage. It is for us to trust the Lord Jesus completely. Beloved, this is the only way in which we can conquer fear and live in victory.
Hebrews 10:35 Do not, therefore, fling away your [fearless] confidence, for it has a glorious and great reward. 39 But our way is not that of those who shrink back to destruction, but [we are] of those who believe [relying on God through faith in Jesus Christ, the Messiah] and by this confident faith preserve the soul.
